It is the only place in the body where these specific 'rapid-response' B-cells reside. B-Cell Maturation and Antibody Production: Within the splenic follicles, B-cells undergo germinal centre reactions, refining their ability to produce potent antibodies. This process is essential for long-term immunity and vaccine efficacy. Why Asplenia Leads to Overwhelming Infection: Without the spleen's unique marginal zone, the body loses its primary way of detecting encapsulated bacteria.
