GENETICS, SNPS & METHYLATION
Your Genes Are Not Your Destiny. Your Methylation Is.
Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) — small variations in the DNA sequence at specific genomic positions — explain much of the individual variation in toxin susceptibility, nutrient requirements, drug metabolism, and disease risk. The MTHFR gene variants (C677T and A1298C) affect the enzyme responsible for activating folate for the methylation cycle, with serious downstream consequences for detoxification, neurotransmitter synthesis, cardiovascular health, and foetal development. The methylation cycle — methylating and de-methylating DNA and histones — determines which genes are expressed or silenced, making it the master epigenetic control mechanism and a primary target for nutritional intervention.
